Changing patterns

This photo project documents the day-to-day work at the skills learning centre for women set up by the NGO Mera Parivar in Rajiv Nagar, a locality in the fast-growing city of Gurgaon, India. The people who lives in this area generally come from other States in search of a job and they stay near to construction sites and factories.

The Women Empowerment project of Mera Parivar aims to raise awareness among families and society for the labor inclusion of women.

Over hundred women are currently attending the courses where they learn sewing skills, designing, hairdressing and computer skills. There is also a nursery and a Mahila Mandal, a women´s group that gathers weekly to discuss on various issues focusing on the betterment of their community. They also seek to foster women’s empowerment through dialogue, organisation and peer mediation.

‘Changing patterns’ pretends to draw attention to the several projects of Mera Parivar and its battle against exclusion and discrimination of women in India.
